Studying a pack

How to review cards using Full Mode, Quick Mode and Improve Mode.

2 min read · Updated 30 September 2026

Rotely has three ways to study a flashcard pack. This page explains what Full Mode, Quick Mode and Improve Mode review, so you can choose one for your session.

Choose a study mode#

Open the pack you want to study, then choose a mode. The modes differ in which cards they bring into your session:

  • Full Mode reviews every card in the pack.
  • Quick Mode is for a shorter review when you have limited time.
  • Improve Mode focuses on cards you struggle with, then rotates older cards back in for further review.
  • Quiz Mode Rotely Pro users can be quizzed on their cards.

You can return to the same pack for another session and choose a different mode to suit the time you have and the cards you want to review.

Review every card with Full Mode#

Choose Full Mode when you want to go through the whole pack. Review the cards as they appear, considering each question before checking its answer. Because this mode includes every card, it is the choice for a complete review rather than a short session focused on selected cards.

Fit in a shorter session with Quick Mode#

Choose Quick Mode when you want to revise but do not have time to review the entire pack. It is intended for shorter sessions. If you need to cover every card, use Full Mode instead.

Focus on difficult cards with Improve Mode#

Choose Improve Mode to concentrate on cards you struggle with. The mode also rotates older cards back in, so the session does not stay focused only on the cards you currently find difficult.

Quiz Mode#

Quiz Mode lets you test your knowledge by getting ten random cards with different answers from the pack as multiple-choice options. You then pick the correct answer and progress through.

Study question 1 of 10 asks for ‘Sleep’, with four German answer options and a disabled Next Question button.
